For this track I tried to capture a live music atmosphere, using an electronic format. I wanted to capture a seventies sort of vibe, with a touch of the new school. I focused a lot on the drums and bass to really give it a soul/funk feel. I think overall, I accomplished my task.
For my bass I chose a picked bass sound from logic and played it with a few more accents than I would have normally to achieve the feel I was aiming for. The drums are a funk kit in a 4/4 meter.
I chose a song I was already working on for this piece and expanded on it. The song is in D minor and the arrangement is as follows : Section A | F7 |Em7 |A7 | Gm7 | Section B : |F7|Am7|Gm7|F7|Dm7|Em7|F7 Section C : F7| Dm7| Am7 |Em7 and finally second D copies section B.
My original sound is actually sort of simple. It’s lust a 32 Saw wave with a bit of glide and the decay turned up all the way. I played with the pitch bend in my piece to give it a sort of 90’s hip hop feel. Some obstacles I dealt with were the limited capabilities of stock logic synths. I wasn’t really able to achieve the sound I am able to with other VST’s.
For this track I put a compressor on basically everything. I wanted the drums and bass to sound punchy. I also used various types of reverb to give my track more atmosphere. On my lead synth in the fourth section I used panning to add more effect.
